Rancho San Minguel is a kunuku with eco-resort approval on a plot of over 141.500 sq.ft (1.3 hectares / 13,150 m²) of freehold land. There is a main house and two eco-lodges, each with its own solar panels, electricity, and water supply. The entire property was fenced over 25 years ago, allowing the local trees and plants to grow well. And you can see the results. This ensures optimal privacy and tranquility for all residents. This is a unique opportunity for someone who loves the peace of the kunuku while still receiving rental income.
Layout
The plot is approximately 394 ft wide and 361 ft deep (120 x 110 meters) with the three houses mainly situated on the right side. Upon entering, there is a long driveway leading to the main house of 1,550 sq.ft (144 m²), located at the rear of the plot. A wooden staircase leads directly to the open living room. On the right side, there is a dining table with a seating area and, of course, space for a hammock on the spacious porch. At the front is the U-shaped kitchen with an unobstructed view over the kunuku. The kitchen is equipped with a 4-burner gas stove, oven and fridge/freezer combination. Adjacent to the living room on the first floor is the primary bedroom with a walk-in closet, office and large windows including screens and lighting. From the bedroom, there is access to the balcony, with the bathroom on the right side, which includes a sink and a generous shower. There is a separate toilet.
On the ground floor, there is a living space that doubles as a living room. Additionally, there are two bedrooms, both large enough for a double bed. On the right side of the living space is the bathroom, with a toilet and shower. At the back, there is a large porch, well-positioned to catch the breeze. There is plenty of space here to barbecue or relax in a hammock with friends or family. On the right side of the house, there is an outdoor shower and an outdoor bath. There are also various shelters, sheds, and plenty of storage space. On the right side of the house, there are three water barrels, each with a capacity of 1.5 m³ (1,500 liters / 396 gallons), with a viewing platform above them.
Stilt house (753 sq.ft / 70 m2)
To the right of the driveway stands a detached stilt house. The front staircase takes you directly to the open hallway, with the bedroom and a small office space on the left. The walls and ceiling have been insulated. The simple kitchen at the back features an electric stove, fridge/freezer combination, and a few cabinets. From the kitchen, you have a view of the outdoor tank with fish, among other things. The open living room on the other side of the hallway has an airy feel, and its location provides plenty of privacy. There is also a second staircase leading to the private parking area.
Lodge (1,076 sq.ft / 100 m2)
To the right of the back of the complex is a third property, called “the lodge”. This former horse stable has been converted into a residential home. On the ground floor there is a cozy living kitchen and bedroom. There is both an indoor and outdoor shower and a front porch with picnic table. There’s a seat in the back that sits nicely upwind. A wide wooden outdoor staircase leads to the first floor. Here is a second bedroom with a large open porch/living area. The wooden floor was reinstalled in 2022 and the walls and ceiling of the upstairs bedroom have been insulated. Finally, there is another viewing platform.
Adjacent to the lodge is a large storage area that houses the batteries of the solar panels plus more space for storage. Further here is another cabinet and there are 2 water barrels, each with a capacity of 2.5 m3 (cube).
There are several chicken and pig stalls between the lodge and the pole house. The entire 1.3 hectare property is fenced, preventing goats and donkeys (basically) from entering the property. As a result, many local trees and plants grow.
Technical details
There is a good internet connection near Rancho San Minguel through an Airmax from Telbo.
The entire roof of the lodge was renewed in 2022 and the roof of the residence was renewed in 2017. There are roof gutters leading to a rainwater harvesting tank. For pumping the water, there are 2 different pumps: a light one and a heavier one. Because the tanks are on an elevation, water can also be tapped should the pumps fail. The 3x 1½ cubic buckets took care of the main and pole housing water. The lodge has 2 private 2½ cubic bins.
Each house has its own electricity supply using solar panels, own batteries and inverter. There are 25 solar panels in total: main house 5, pole house 9 and the lodge 11. Each property has its own beer pit. Under the Rural Development Plan, approval for an eco-resort has been granted.
The garden consists entirely of local trees that do not require additional water. This also has the advantage that there are no puddles where mosquitoes can land. The only maintenance required is keeping the walkways and driveway clear.
